  • Andis Promotor Combo

Most of the time going to the barbershop is a great experience. The banter, the humour and the end result. There are also times where the barbershop is ridiculously busy and you just don’t have the time to be sitting around, thus need a home solution that could give a similar effect.

For the price of around 3 haircuts (at roughly £11 each) you can get yourself the Andis Promotor Combo. It comes with a range of additional guard lengths, a light weight, ergonomically designed clipper that combines a pivot motor and two stainless steel blades for getting a great result.

The great thing about combo is you also get a trimmer for shaping up your desired style, trimming your beard or even your eyebrows (if you are still into that sort of thing). It is also useful when looking to do close shaves on your face and fading. It will take some practice to get used to using the tools so make sure you watch the included DVD. The rest is down to you.

  • Tips for an effortless shave

Shaving can be a daily chore or delight for many men across the globe. Methods including electric and manual razors being the tool of choice in the endeavours for the closest, most comfortable shave.

When priming ones face for a shave it is best to open the pours up. By having a hot shower or placing a hot towel on the face for a few minutes it gets the skin ready for the actual shave. Couple that with an exfoliation will remove all dead skin from your face so the blades don’t clog up and can do their job properly.

Ideally you should look to change the blade art around the 6 shave mark to ensure you get the best shave possible. Blunt blades will mean you put your skin under more pressure that could lead to a not so nice outbreak of irritation.

Most men’s preference is to use oil or cream when shaving to reduce a chance of irritation allowing the razor to glide over the skin. Popular products include Argan oil and coconut oil.

When you shave go against the grain of your hair to reduce the chance of clogged pours. Moisturise after with products with aloe, tree-tree and chamomile to soothe your skin.

  • What products to use on your hair

The male grooming market has been on the rise steadily over the last few years. In 2012 it was worth £25 million and was climbing on a steady 5% growth ever since. So its no shock that there are an increasing amount of products surfacing in the market and the hair care segment is one that is important to a lot of men.

For all the different types of male hair in the world here are a couple of products that you could consider:

    Creme

Creme gives a natural and robust sheen and typically used for long hair. With only a small amount between the palms you should massage into the hair paying particular attention to the ends for best results. This gives your hair the natural shine and flexibility you desire without it looking like you have saturated your hair in product.

    Pomade

Perfect for the office, pomade gives a polish and classic edge to your hair.  Great hold, glossy shine and slick finish applied with palms then styled accordingly with a comb afterwards. It appropriate for both short and medium length hair and the great thing about pomade means you can incrementally remould your hair throughout the day, then can be washed out in the evening.

  • How to Dip Dye Your Hair

Dip-dying is definitely on the list of trends at the moment currently worn by celebrities like Katy Perry and Jessie J. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to successfully achieve dip dying your hair yourself without the need of visiting a salon and paying high sums of money to get it done professionally. The best thing about dip dyed hair is that you never have to worry about touching up your roots so it takes very little maintenance, and if you change your look often then it’s not too much trouble to do it all over again.

    1. First,  you’ll need to decide whether you’re going to bleach your hair. If you want really vibrant colours, you’ll need to bleach your hair first especially if you already have dark hair. If you have light coloured hair (e.g blonde) or you are looking to dip dye your hair a subtle colour skip this step.
    2. Next, put an hair band on your hair a few centimetres above the area where you want the dip dye colour to start and begin applying the bleach with a tint brush. If you fan your hair out and do a small strand at a time you’ll get more even coverage, also try and feather where the bleach stops a little if you don’t want a straight line, this will make it look more professional.
    3. Wash out the bleach and shampoo but do not condition your hair. Conditioning your hair before colouring can prevent the dye from sticking.
    4. Blow dry your hair. Once your hair is dry you can add the dye. Again, put an hair band on your hair just above the area you which do dye. Use a tint brush to apply the dye everywhere that the bleach has lightened your hair. It’s best to go a little bit over the line and get some dye on the unbleached hair too to make sure the colour blends in.
    5. Leave the dye on for the given time (it should state on the packaging of the dye.) Then rinse , shampoo and condition.
    6. Blow dry for a perfect finish.

  • Opting for a Short Men’s Hair Style

Many guys will change the length of their hair throughout the year, but the short loo may be way forward, especially if it is short all over with the hair on top slightly longer than the sides.

This is a subtle look and it will mean that you have the chance to scrunch up the hair on the top, perhaps making a quiff, or opting for a messy look/ You have to be carefully when you’re getting your hair cut because if it is too short on top then this style will not work. Short sides are ideal if you don’t want a great deal of maintenance but with a bit more hair on top you will have plenty of options i terms of styles.

If you’re planning on a short cut then go for the ‘short back and sides and slightly longer on top look’. It will be simple, low maintenance and stylish.
