  • Going for the fishtail hairstyle

Not many people know a great deal about fishtail hair styles and the name probably doesn’t make it sound as good as it is! It’s a type of braid and it changes in thickness from the head to the shoulders, and really it only works well with long hair. So if you have long hair, read on…

It must be said that fishtails do not suit every type of woman. They tend to look better on individuals who are used to having their hair tied back. We don’t recommend having a fishtail if you have a fringe, partly because it takes some of the impact away from the fishtail and that’s not what this new trend is about.

Obviously this type of hair cut is not the easiest to braid, and if your skills are not up to scratch you may want to get a friend to help you out. Remember, however, practice makes perfect, so have a few goes before you call for backup.

  • How Often Should You Be Conditioning Your Hair?

How often should you be conditioning your hair? A question many people ask their hairdressers with a different answer given depening on, a) the knowledge of your hairdresser and b) the type of hair that you have.

For example if your hair is bleached or has been recently chemically relaxed, then you will need to take more care of it. Many hairdressers would recommend that you condition your hair everytime you shampoo.

Another factor to take in is also how damaged your hair is. If you have significant damage, then a deep conditioning treatment once a week may work well for your locks.

  • Blow Drying Long Hair

Many people say that constant blow drying of the hair will cause damage in the long run, but if you dry your hair carefully with the correct techniques you can avoid this problem.

    • Wash your hair with a moisturising shampoo, which will help your hair whilst it’s being blow-dried later.
    • When drying your hair with a towel, do so enough to stop the dripping. Do not rub your hair too hard as this may cause split ends and frizziness. Instead blot the water out of your hair by wrapping the towel around.
    • Before your start to blow dry, separate your hair into smaller sections. This will make the drying process much quicker. If your hair is very long, you can use clips to help.
    • Blow dry from the top and work down. Make sure to stay around 6 inches away from your scalp.
    • Do not completely dry your hair as it does need some moisture.

  • The Best Way To Cut Split Ends

Depending on the amount of split ends you have, you can easily sort the issue yourself. Saving money in the long run by avoiding a trip to the salon. Below is our four-step process.

    1) Find a pair of hair shears. Avoid using normal scissors as they will cause more split ends by gnawing through your hair.

    2) To keep the ends strong, cut perpendicular to the actual hair strand.

    3) To ensure a healthy end, cut 0.25 inches above the split.

    4) If you have dark hair, then trim against a light background. This will make it easier to see the accuracy of the cut. Again, if you have light hair then trim against a dark background.
